#restaurant #city/kansai/kyoto [Uemori (祇園 うえもり)](https://www.uemori.net/) is a [kaiseki (懐石)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiseki) restaurant in [Kyoto (京都市)](https://www.city.kyoto.lg.jp/). We got seats overlooking a nice garden, which reminded us a bit of [an experience we had on our last trip.](https://japanadventure2024.com/Food/Matsusyo+(%E6%9D%BE%E6%AD%A3)) ![[uemori garden.jpg]] We had their [yudofu (湯豆腐)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tofu#Japan_2) and [yuba (湯葉)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tofu_skin) kaiseki meal (湯豆腐と湯葉の会席) (¥4400) for lunch. The meal started off with yuba. ![[uemori yuba.jpg]] It was followed by yudofu (including bean curd, tofu, and vegetables), bean curd, and sashimi. ![[uemori yudofu.jpg]] _Already, this meal was delicious and high-quality, and we were wondering if this was the entire meal. But then the food kept coming._ 🤣 Next we had a tempura (天ぷら) course, which included what I think was a green chile tempura. _Tasty, but it was my first time having this as a piece of tempura._ _We noticed that both here and [[Ichifuji (いち藤)]] served tempura with salt but no sauce._ ![[uemori tempura.jpg]] The next dish was yuba served in a thick soup. _It was almost like the yuba was only partially cooked--like a medium-rare steak. Simon and I both enjoyed the taste and texture of this yuba._ _The texture of the soup reminded us of a [hot and sour soup (酸辣汤)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_and_sour_soup#China). We also found this soup delicious._ ![[uemori soup.jpg]] The next course included a bowl of fish on rice, [red miso soup (味噌汁)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miso_soup), and [a set of pickles (漬物)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsukemono). _The fish reminded me of a [shirasu (白子) restaurant](https://japanadventure2024.com/Food/Wasai+Yakura+(%E5%92%8C%E5%BD%A9%E5%85%AB%E5%80%89)) we visited on our last trip. That said, I wasn't sure this was the same type of fish._ ![[uemori fish.jpg]] I might need to come back and adjust this later, but _I think_ our final course was [agari (あがり)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_tea#Japanese_green_tea) with a pumpkin-infused tofu. _I really liked this dessert. It was almost like there was a light caramel on top of the tofu._ ![[uemori dessert.jpg]]
