#museum #city/kansai/uji Chazuna is a museum and activity center located right near the Keihan Station in Uji. We took a class about tea before walking through the museum. The class was led by <!-- Hideko -->Kojima, who gave very fun and memorable instructions about how to grind and prepare the tea. ![[chazuna instructor.jpg]] The class started by giving people a bit of context on the different types of tea, how they're harvested, and how they're prepared. The next part of the class involved grinding tea leaves to prep the matcha powder. We used a much smaller grinding mill than is used industrially. If I recall correctly, the industrial grinders can produce 30-40 grams of matcha powder every 5 minutes, and they have more protections in place to prevent air exposure from sapping flavour and longevity away from the matcha powder. For the final part of the class, we learned the basics of preparing matcha using the powder we produced during the workshop. It was like a hands-on version of what we had experienced at [[Taihoan (対鳳庵)]] early in the morning. We also walked through the museum afterwards. I found that a lot of what the museum showcased was actually covered during the workshop. And before leaving the museum, we did get to take some fun photos. ![[chazuna tea cup.jpg]] ![[chazuna dessert.jpg]]
