# [[2026-10-05|<<]] | Tuesday, October 6, 2026 | [[2026-10-07|>>]] #city/kyushu/beppu We got off the [[Sunflower Kurenai (さんふらわあ くれない)]] and took a bus to [[Tenku Yubo Seikaiso (天空湯房 清海荘)]] where we dropped off our luggage before heading off to explore Beppu. After grabbing something quick to eat from a local Lawson's, we took a bus to [[Umi Jigoku (海地獄)]]. We decided to not see all of the Hells of Beppu (別府地獄), and instead we went for a walk through Beppu to explore some of the local shops. We tried the free foot steaming station outside of [[鉄輪温泉むし湯]] before grabbing lunch at [[とり天専門店里や鉄輪本店]]. We wanted to see two of the other Hells that were further away, but we decided to walk there. Along the way, we stopped at [[南光物産 本社直売所]] where we bought a few souvenirs. We arrived just in time to see the erupting geyser at [[Tatsumaki Jigoku (龍巻地獄)]]. _We decided against stopping by Chinoike Jigoku (血の池地獄) while we were there due to lack of time._ We took the bus back to the Kannawa area, where we returned to [[鉄輪温泉むし湯]] to try their steam bath. We had a reservation at Beppu Beach Sand Bath (別府海浜砂湯) in the early evening, but we wanted to check out the Yukemuri Observation Deck (湯けむり展望台) before that. We started walking in that direction, but then we saw a sign for [[きふね城]], so we decided to check that out instead. We ended up spending longer than expected checking out the castle and were gonna be late for our sand bath reservation, so we ran from the castle to the sand bath. However, when we arrived, we found out that they were closed that day for renovations. _Our appointment was actually for the day before but we wrote it down wrong in our calendar._ We took a bus back to our hotel. We were gonna check out the sand bath at [[Takegawara Onsen (竹瓦温泉)]], but after walking there, we decided to try the bath at [[Tenku Yubo Seikaiso (天空湯房 清海荘)]] instead. After the bath, we headed out to [[Choromatsu (チョロ松 本店)]] for dinner. Then we did some laundry at a nearby laundromat before heading to bed.
