We spent most of our day today in Uji, which is best known for matcha and gyokuro.
We took a subway from Kyoto to Uji, which included two transfers—one transfer was required to make the trip, and the other was because we didn’t realize that the travel pass we wanted to use for the trip couldn’t be obtained at the first station we went to.
We started our day with a tea ceremony at [[Taihoan (対鳳庵)]].
Afterwards, we had a quick lunch at [[Tsuen Tea (通圓)]].
Then we did some shopping on one of the Uji shopping streets and got a snack at [[菓寮 伊藤軒 宇治平等院店]] before heading to do a workshop where we learned how to make (i.e. grind our own) matcha at [[Chazuna (茶づな)]].
We headed back to another shopping street where we did some more souvenir shopping.
To wrap up our time in Uji, we visited the temple and museum at [[Byodoin Temple (平等院)]], and walked to and from [[Amagase Suspension Bridge (天ヶ瀬吊り橋)]] (we were originally going to walk to the dam, but decided to stop at the suspension bridge because the dam was already closed to visitors).
Finally, we returned to Kyoto and ended our day with dinner at [[Gion Duck Noodles (🦆🍜)]].
